This Sunday, we reach the breathtaking conclusion of Revelation 5. The chapter began with a question that brought John to tears: “Who is worthy?” No one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth was found worthy to open the scroll. Then John hears the announcement: “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah… has conquered.” When John turns to see the Lion, he sees a Lamb standing as though slain.
That is the wonder of Revelation 5. The Lion conquers as the Lamb. The One rejected by men is worshiped by heaven. The One who was slain is declared worthy by angels, elders, and living creatures, and eventually by every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea.
This Sunday, we will consider why Jesus is worthy. He is Judah’s Lion. He is God’s Lamb. He is the One worthy to take the scroll. He is the King who cannot be conquered. He is the Lamb who was slain as the sinner’s ransom. He is creation’s Lord, heaven’s song, and the Father’s Amen. Revelation 5 does not merely tell us that Jesus is worthy; it invites us to see Him as heaven sees Him until our hearts join the song: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.”
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday to worship the Lamb together!
Grace,
Pastor Keith
