This Sunday we will continue our journey through Revelation by considering the opening of the fifth seal in Revelation 6:9–11.
After the first four seals reveal a world marked by conquest, war, famine, and death, John is shown a very different scene. He sees “the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained.” They are gathered beneath the altar, in the presence of God, crying out, “How long, O Lord, holy and true?”
That question is one of the most honest prayers God’s people can pray in a world filled with injustice, suffering, persecution, and death. It is the cry of those who know that evil is real, suffering is painful, and the cost of faithfulness can be great. But it is also the cry of those who know that God is on the throne, that He is holy and true, and that His justice never sleeps.
Revelation 6 reminds us that those who suffer for Christ are not forgotten. Their lives are not wasted. Their prayers are not ignored. The world may cast them aside, but they are not forsaken, because they belong to the Lamb. God clothes them in white, honors their witness, and calls them to rest until the appointed time when His justice will be fully revealed.
This is a passage for every believer who has ever wondered how long suffering and evil will be allowed to continue. It is a passage for every weary saint who needs to be reminded that the Lamb sees, the Lamb remembers, and the Lamb will make all things right.
I hope you will join us this Sunday as we listen to the cry beneath the altar and learn what it means to remain faithful while we wait for the justice of God.
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday!
Grace,
Pastor Keith
